Fringed loosestrife grows in a variety of fairly open, sunny, moist or wet places across forest and prairie regions. It likes wet meadows, wet prairies, the margins of marshes, peatlands, and along lakes and streams in moist mineral or mucky soil. It spreads by rhizomes.
